Many technical skills, like writing and coding, can be performed successfully by generative AI models like ChatGPT. In fact, many individuals worry that this technology may eventually replace their professions. According to a recent IBM study, people should embrace technology rather than fear it in order to benefit from it.
The IBM report examines how the rise of AI is changing business models for companies, particularly in terms of how they use AI to conduct their operations and how it affects employee positions.
IBM used information from two earlier studies—one of 21,000 workers in 22 countries and 3,000 C-level executives across 28 countries—to obtain the answers to these questions. The findings demonstrated that although AI will likely alter the workforce and enterprises, these changes won’t necessarily be for the worse.
According to World Bank figures, the executives polled predicted that 40% of their workforce—or 1.4 billion out of the 3.4 billion workers in the world’s labor force—will need to reskill in the next three years as a result of the application of AI.
However 87% of those CEOs believe that generative AI would complement roles rather than take their place. Those who effectively reskill to adapt to technology-driven employment changes “report a revenue growth rate premium of 15% on average,” and those who concentrate on AI “see higher growth.
The new skill paradigm causes previously valued technical talents, such as STEM proficiency, which was the most important skill in 2016, to become the least important in 2023. According to the report, this is because modern solutions like ChatGPT enable employees to accomplish more with less training.
In the workforce of 2023, there will be a greater emphasis on soft skills like team management, the capacity to work well in teams, effective communication, and adaptability. These abilities have risen to the top of the list of the most important competencies.
